Common Questions

Exotic Pet Care FAQ

Do I need a special appointment for my exotic pet?

Exotic animals benefit from appointments with our exotic-experienced vets. When booking, let us know what species you're bringing so we can schedule you with Dr. Bosilevac or Dr. Bremers as appropriate.

What should I bring to an exotic pet visit?

Bring any previous veterinary records, a list of what your pet eats, any supplements or medications they're on, and if possible, a fresh stool sample in a sealed container. A brief note on how long they've been showing symptoms and any behavioral changes is very helpful.

Can you spay or neuter my rabbit?

Yes. Spaying and neutering rabbits is an important part of their long-term health and Dr. Bremers performs these procedures routinely. We recommend spaying female rabbits to reduce the high risk of uterine cancer.

My reptile hasn't eaten in weeks. Is that an emergency?

Appetite changes in reptiles can be normal (brumation, shedding) or a sign of illness. If your reptile is also lethargic, losing weight, or showing respiratory symptoms, call us right away. We can usually see urgent exotic cases same-day or next-day.

How do I transport my exotic pet safely?

Use a secure, ventilated carrier. Keep the temperature stable — reptiles especially need warmth during transport. Cover the carrier with a light cloth to reduce stress.
